Civil engineering and storm water management –
Civil Engineering deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physically built and naturally occurring environments. This includes public works such as roads, bridges, dams, power stations, sewerage systems and storm water pipelines to name just a few. Many civil engineering projects are on a much larger scale than the gas and water utilities and pipes can be up to four metres in diameter. Often, pipework systems for civil engineering projects will be gravity fed rather than pumped, so pressures are lower and the main concerns are structural integrity of the pipes after they have been buried. Special profile plastic pipes are often used for their lightweight manoeuvrability during installation while still maintaining high crush strength.
